You've probably noticed some big changes at your credit union lately. Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union has become Affidian Credit Union! It's part of an organization-wide effort to make your credit union the very best it can be for you, your family, and the community you care about.

And while our name has changed, we haven't forgotten where we came from, or who we're here to serve. Affidian is your credit union — 100% owned by our members and not-for-profit. That's why we're so dedicated to serving the financial needs of the law enforcement community and the Denver Police Department.

Our name celebrates our history and defines our focus.


The name Affidian is inspired by the words Affinity and Guardian. To us, it represents our enduring relationship with you, the guardians of our community, and our ongoing commitment to stand by your side.

Born of the DPD with a history of service.

From a single room in police headquarters to a full-service financial institution, our dedication to law enforcement and their families has never wavered.
 
 

1938 - Founded during the Great Depression as the Denver Police Federal Credit Union, established by Denver Police officers with the support of Mayor George Begole. 

 

1940 - Moved into the basement of Denver Police Headquarters at 13th & Champa, operating out of a small room behind the pistol range. 

 

1978 - Expanded services such as checking accounts and relocated to its own building next door to the new police headquarters on Cherokee Street. 

 

2002 - Changed our name to Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union (RMLEFCU) to reflect the many additional law enforcement agencies added as Select Employee Groups since 1986. 

 

2016 - Renovated all branches, adding modern technology to improve efficiency and member experience. 

 

2024 - We became Affidian Credit Union, a name symbolizing affinity and guardianship — continuing our legacy of service to Denver’s law enforcement community.

In a way, nothing. Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union is Affidian Credit Union. Yes, we changed our name, but our people, our focus, and our commitment to serving the law enforcement community remains the same.

We had to ask ourselves, how can this organization remain healthy and strong for years to come, so we can continue to serve our law enforcement members with the highest quality banking experience? Changing our name to Affidian helps this organization remain viable, resilient, and strong for generations to come.

We've served the Denver Police Department since 1938. That's a long time. That focus and commitment doesn't waver — it's remained constant through other major changes. This isn't the first time this institution has changed its name. From Denver Police Credit Union to RMLEFCU and now to Affidian Credit Union, healthy growth and smart change is part of how we serve you. 
Some of the reasoning is simply practical. Let's be honest, Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union is a mouthful. In a world of mobile apps and digital screens, it just doesn't work very well. Sure, RMLEFCU is shorter, but it's also clunky and awkward. Affidian Credit Union is just cleaner, simpler, and more streamlined. And that's what we want to do for you: provide banking that is cleaner, simpler, and more streamlined.

We love our history. We're proud of where we've been. We haven't forgotten where we came from or who we serve, but just as there was a time when Denver Police Credit Union needed to become RMLEFCU to grow and remain strong, becoming Affidian will carry us into the future in a way the RMLEFCU simply can't.
Supporting the law enforcement community is part of our DNA. Here are just a few examples:

    1. We offer an exclusive First Mortgage Program for Law Enforcement — and it's only for Law Enforcement. Among its perks are no origination fee and no private mortgage insurance requirements.

    2. The Unparalleled Community Impact Awards (UCIA). Now in its 7th year, the UCIA honors local law enforcement officers who demonstrate outstanding community service.

    3. We provide office space for the Executive Director of the Denver Police Blue Hat Foundation (formerly the Denver Police Officer's Foundation). And our CEO, Christine Wiley, has been on the board since its founding in 1999.

    4. And your credit union supports and donates money, time and resources to a variety of DPD-related charities and nonprofits.

Absolutely! The Denver Police Blue Hat Foundation supports our Denver Police family through financial, health, and wellbeing programs. 

In addition to financial support, Affidian Credit Union provides executive office space to the foundation. And Affidian's President and CEO, Christine Wiley, has served on the foundation's board since 1999.
